Overview

Inside the Board of County Commissioners chambers one can find an exhibition of art. Every four months a new exhibition of loaned artwork is put on display. The Art in the Chambers program showcases both art from our local museums and/or collections and art which has been created by nationally known artists that live or work in Orange County.

Not only the thousands of people who come through the chamber doors, but all those who pass through the remote portal of cable channel 9, will have an opportunity to see these creative works!

Orange County Courthouse
horizontalbar

The purpose of the Orange County Courthouse public art collection is twofold. It provides aesthetic enhancement to the building, making it more human and less intimidating to the citizens of Orange County who visit and work in the building. The museum quality collection of Works Progress Administration graphic works and the strong examples of painting, sculpture and ceramics by local artists form a very cohesive, and at the same time, diverse body of art.

The strong tradition of government to support the visual arts has been the driving force behind the creation of the collection. The Federal Government supported the WPA projects to give artists a means of supporting themselves during the Depression and in this same spirit of fostering the arts, Orange County Government has enthusiastically embraced the idea of including works by many of our most outstanding local artists.
